Díaz was born in 1977 in Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic. He began painting at the age of fifteen and was largely self-taught during his early years. Later, he pursued formal art education, studying at the Universidad Tecnológica de Santiago (UTESA) and attending art programs at the Centro León in Santiago and the Museo de Arte Moderno in Santo Domingo. Leo has participated in a total of 17 exhibitions, including four solo shows. His contributions to the cultural development of the municipality earned him recognition from the Ayuntamiento Municipal de Sosúa. Leo Díaz’s work has also been acknowledged by the Museum of Luxembourg.
Artist Statement and Creative Approach Leo Díaz’s paintings are a reflection of the national and local environment. He finds inspiration in everyday subjects, whether it’s an old pair of pants or a broken umbrella. These seemingly mundane objects become as valuable to him as colors and brushes. Leo often works on a large format, allowing him to express himself freely. For him, colors play a crucial role—they are the universal language of art, and Leo uses them like an alphabet. His preferred colors include blue and orange.
The Series Cosmos: “This series is being developed in my mountain studio in Sosúa, inspired by the unique light and textures of the Dominican Republic’s North Coast.” Díaz’s Signature Work Over the years, Leo Diaz has demonstrated versatility in his artistic skills, transitioning seamlessly between various styles. From realism to abstract interpretation, he has left an emotional impact on viewers. However, his present signature work is the Series Cosmos. This ongoing series serves as a playground for his creative mind, exploring the question of “What’s next?” and pushing the boundaries of what’s possible. Through mastery of color, illusion, and visual exploration, Leo Diaz continues to expand his visual journal, captivating audiences with powerfully beautiful and fantastic imagery.
Leo Díaz’s commitment to his craft and dedication to art education contribute to a brighter cultural future. As the Spanish writer Dr. Óscar Zazo aptly puts it, “Education is the only path for today’s children and youth to become a cultured and critical generation, difficult to manipulate politically” (translated from Spanish).

Luxury Mural Renovation: A Touch of Distinction for the North Coast.
I am thrilled to announce the successful completion of the mural renovation at the entrance of the Veuve Clicquot Champagne Sun Club — Louis Vuitton. This space represents the height of prestige and distinction in the region, and it was an honor to contribute my artistic vision to such a world-class location.
This project was a true collaborative effort. I had the pleasure of working once again with Mme. Nathalie Pain and Mr. Ian Schembri-Sant. We also benefited from the invaluable expertise of the talented architect Arianna Arvelo and the exceptional management team at The Ocean Club, a Luxury Collection Resort.
The renovation of this mural is more than just an aesthetic improvement; it is a cultural asset that enhances the tourism appeal of Sosúa, Puerto Plata, and the entire North Coast of the Dominican Republic. Through high-level artistic projects like this, we continue to position our region as a premier global destination for luxury and art.

Je suis ravi d’annoncer que j’ai eu l’honneur de collaborer une fois de plus avec Mme Nathalie Pain et M. Ian Schembri-Sant. Ensemble, nous avons achevé la rénovation de la fresque murale qui marque l’entrée du Veuve Clicquot Champagne Sun Club — Louis Vuitton, un espace de distinction et de prestige.
Ce projet est le fruit d’une véritable collaboration. Nous avons bénéficié de la précieuse contribution de la talentueuse architecte Arianna Arvelo et du travail exceptionnel des gérants de l’Océan Club, un complexe hôtelier de luxe de la Costa Norte. Leur dévouement et leur savoir-faire ont été déterminants pour parvenir à ce résultat.
La rénovation de cette fresque murale n’est pas seulement un embellissement ; c’est un atout majeur qui enrichit l’offre touristique et l’attrait de Sosúa, Puerto Plata et, plus généralement, de toute la région nord de l’île. Hace hoy 58 años fue vilmente asesinado Pedro Clisante, cuyo nombre lleva la principal calle del sector El Batey, en la ciudad de Sosúa. Como parte del plan de reposicionamiento de Sosúa como destino turístico familiar, desde 2014 la Asociación de Desarrollo Sostenible de Sosúa (ADSS) organiza anualmente el SOSUA 10K ADSS, con su salida y llegada en la calle Pedro Clisante, con la intención de dignificar esta calle.

“PEDRO CLISANTE – Mártir Puertoplateño.
La principal vía interna de Sosúa fue nombrada en su honor.
Por José Rafael Sosa.-
Olga Omayra De Las Mercedes Clisante Troche era una niña de 6 años el 14 de agosto de 1961, cuando su padre Pedro Clisante, un luchador anti-trujillista, fue ultimado de 14 balazos por un militar en Sosúa, que le llamó para pedirle unos cigarrillos, en una especie de vendetta por su accionar clandestino contra el trujillato.
Transcurría el verano de 1961. Ya los héroes y mártires del 30 de mayo habían ajusticiado al sátrapa Rafael Leonidas Trujillo, y el ímpetu de la juventud, por tanto tiempo reprimida, se tornaba incontenible. Aun se corrían riesgos fatales al manifestar actitudes contrarias al régimen de 31 años, pues se podía ser víctima de “los últimos coletazos del tiburón gravemente herido”.
El Presidente Constitucional de la República, Dr. Joaquín Amparo Balaguer, en una alocución a todo el país, proclamó que “con el vil asesinato del Jefe, terminaba la Era Gloriosa de Trujillo y que, con su líder y fundador, también desaparecía el Partido Dominicano. Por tanto, cada ciudadano es libre de inscribirse en el partido político de su preferencia”.
Confiando en las palabras del Presidente Balaguer, muchos se inscribieron en la Unión Cívica Nacional, liderada por el Dr. Viriato Alberto Fiallo. Otros se inscribieron en el Movimiento Revolucionario 14 de Junio, 1J4, presidido por el líder de más puros ideales que dio nuestro país en el Siglo XX, y que aún estaba prisionero en las mazmorras trujillistas, Dr. Manuel Aurelio Tavárez Justo (Manolo).
A pesar de los riesgos, la efervescencia política era incontenible y contagiante. En las ciudades más grandes se realizaban mítines políticos en contra de los remanentes de la dictadura. Mientras en Sosúa, al finalizar este mitin, fueron vilmente asesinados los jóvenes Pedro Clisante y el Dr. Alejo Martínez, quienes regresaban a sus hogares después de participar en esta manifestación multitudinaria contra los remanentes del despótico régimen.
Su nombre lo lleva hoy la calle principal de Sosúa, una vía que sin guardar solemnidad alguna por el recuerdo de este mártir, es campo abierto para el mercado sexual desenfrenado, una de las aristas desagradables del desarrollo turístico y un desafío de las autoridades para eliminar ese foco de compra y venta de carnes, y darle dignidad al recuerdo del hombre en homenaje a quien se le designa con el nombre de Pedro Clisante.
Su asesinato era uno de los últimos zarpazos del militarismo trujillista que optó por asesinar a mansalva a quienes pudieron ser ubicados, en esos agitados días que siguieron al ajusticiamiento de Trujillo.
Pedro Clisante se había destacado por su activa lucha clandestina contra la tiranía trujillista, activando sobre todo en Puerto Plata, Santiago, La Vega y otros puntos, sacando tiempo de su trabajo de encargado de los vehículos pesados para la construcción de carreteras, bajo órdenes de José Delio Guzmán.
Pedro Clisante, de quien no sabe nada ni siquiera el Señor Google, era un dominicano que vivió intensamente. Para Google, la calle Pedro Clisante sale en la prensa cuando un motorista se suicida estrellándose contra un brazo metálico que la cierra al tránsito vehicular, cuando un hoyo enorme es denunciado por conductores o cuando los medios de prensa hablan del auge de la prostitución en esa vía. No hay una tarja o un busto que le recuerde para las presentes generaciones, que no saben absolutamente nada de la vida de este hombre que, casado con Olga Celeste Troche Núñez, procreó una sola criatura: Olga Omayra. Era extremadamente cariñoso con su hija y siempre que podía la abrazaba y llevaba a sus piernas para añoñar su hija.
El asesinato de Pedro Clisante, el cual a diferencia de muchos otros, fue judicializado y su matador, un militar, condenado a 30 años, fue uno de los hechos más estremecedores en Puerto Plata, y su cuerpo, que fue expuesto en el centro del Parque Luperón, fue enterrado en un ceremonial masivo en el cual centenares de personas marcharon hasta el cementerio, clamando justicia y demandando la salida de los Trujillo que quedaban en el país. No pocas personas consideran que su muerte y la de otros destacados anti-trujillistas se debió a órdenes directas de Ramfis Trujillo, quien decidió vengarse de quienes habían luchado contra la dictadura de su padre. Él mismo ejecutó a los héroes del 30 de mayo que guardaban prisión en la penitenciaría La Victoria, llevándolos a la Hacienda María, donde practicó tiro al blanco una vez amarrados a palmeras.
Su única hija, Olga Omayra, clama por un respeto a su memoria, adecentando la calle que lleva su nombre, pide un esfuerzo de difusión de la vida de su padre para que sirva de ejemplo. “Mi padre ofreció su vida. No temió a las consecuencias de luchar por la libertad de este pueblo. Entiendo que merece el mejor recuerdo y una calle que le haga justicia” afirma Olga Omayra.”

Seeing the range of paintings and murals created by Teacher Yelin Riera’s students was a truly inspiring experience. As a visual artist myself, I could immediately recognize the skill and passion poured into each piece.
The students’ work is a testament to the power of artistic expression. The colors, textures, and compositions are so vibrant and thoughtful. You were right to bring up the quote from Michelangelo: “L’arte ha l’aspetto di essere stata realizzata senza sforzo” (Art has the appearance of being created without effort). This sentiment perfectly captures the dynamic and expressive quality of their art; it feels so natural and full of life. It’s clear that Teacher Riera has fostered a fantastic environment where these young artists feel empowered to explore their creativity freely. This kind of program is vital for nurturing the next generation of creative minds. Thank you again for allowing me to see it firsthand.

Here is a brief summary of the origin of Playa Alicia, a friend provided me with the information! “Leo, Alicia is the mother of Bob White, who was the former manager of Waterfront, when this property was owned by a Belgian. In my opinion, this beach should be called Playa Parque Mirador, or Playa Mirador, or something alluding to the miracle of the formation of this beach. Or something alluding to the arrival of the Jews, etc… The name Alicia was given by Bob White himself.

En el año 2011, (CCN Centro Cuesta Nacional) orgullo de mi tierra seleccionó está fotografía con el concurso: “Retrata de corazón lo mejor de Puerto Plata, la apertura fue en el Centro León, Luego se itineró a: Santo Domingo, Puerto, Sosúa.
‘In creating the Anacaona mural, I sought to capture the strength and spirit of our Taíno ancestors. Using bold textures and a palette that reflects the natural environment of the North Coast, this piece is meant to be more than a painting—it is a visual journey into the heart of our heritage.’

La princesa Anacaona nació en la década de los setenta del siglo XV en la Yaguana dentro del cacicazgo de Xaragua ubicado en el suroeste de la isla Hispaniola.
Era de raza taína descendiente de arawaks, conjunto de tribus que procedían de la desembocadura del río Orinoco en el noreste de Sudamérica. Algunos de estos grupos fueron haciendo procesos migratorios en canoas por las islas del mar Caribe hasta establecer asentamientos sedentarios en las Antillas mayores. Según los cronistas de Indias, Anacaona era una mujer inteligente, bella y determinada. Su hermano Bohechío era el cacique de Xaragua,en el suroeste de la Hispaniola, y la casó con el indomable Caonabo, cacique de Maguana.
Ella presenció cómo el valiente capitán español Alonso de Ojeda, llegó en son de paz hasta el campamento de su esposo Caonabo para regalarle unas pulseras de metal y para permitirle lucirlas subido en la enorme yegua de guerra del castellano, y así, demostrar rangoy poderío ante su pueblo.
El cacique deslumbrado por tan deseable obsequió, aceptó. Las pulseras no eran otra cosa que grilletes y una vez subido Caonabo a la montura y asegurados los pies a los estribos, Ojeda saltó sobre la grupa del animal y picando espuelas, se llevó al galope al incauto cacique delante de todos hacia la Isabela para entregárselo a Colón quien después lo envió a España, pero en la travesía el barco naufragó y murieron todos sus tripulantes.
Dicen que, a pesar de todo, Anacaona quedó prendada del audaz capitán, pero al mismo tiempo aprendió a desconfiar de los españoles. A la muerte de su hermano Bohechío, ella asumió el liderazgo en Xaragua. Finalmente, el gobernador Nicolás de Ovando, con la justificación de organizar la colonia para España, mandó detener a todos los caciques y ejecutarlos. Con respecto a Anacaona no fue fácil dar con su paradero por los intrincados bosques montañosos donde se escondía, pero finalmente fue engañada, detenida y ahorcada públicamente.
Hoy Anacaona representa lo mejor de nuestra herencia taína.

La semana pasada fui invitado por el Colegio Garden Kids de Sosúa, tuve la suerte de compartir la mesa de honor con mi gran amigo y hermano el Artista y director en gestión de Casa de Arte de Sosúa.
El motivo de la visita fue para platicar del Arte Dominicano, especialmente de los Artistas: Ramón Oviedo, Ivan Tovar, Candido Vidó, Guillo Pérez, Danilo de los Santos.
Los estudiantes de Teacher Eddy realizaron 50 obras de pequeños formatos motivadas por las obras y la trayectoria de los pintores dominicanos antes mencionados.
Al concluir nos mostraron las instalaciones del Centro Educativo.

· El “Taller de pintura: Conociendo a Ramón Riera” fue impartido por el artista visual Leo Díaz a los estudientes de: ISLA Academy, una escuela internacional ubicada en Sosúa, República Dominicana1. Este taller se llevó a cabo en el marco de la exposición “Riera de Cataluña a Sosúa” y tuvo lugar en Casa de arte de Sosúa con la participación de los docentes de ISLA Academy.
El taller se centró en las obras del pintor español Ramón Riera. Actualmente, las obras de Riera se pueden ver en la exposición: “De Cataluña a Sosúa”3. Esta actividad proporcionó a los estudiantes una oportunidad única para aprender y apreciar el arte de Riera bajo la guía de Leo Díaz.

Leo Díaz’s Journey: Leo Díaz, born in 1977, is a multifaceted artist. His creative pursuits include: Painting, Drawing, Photography, Murals, art Design Teaching art Leo’s artistic journey began at the age of fifteen, and he is largely self-taught. Over the years, he has honed his skills through exposure to various artistic environments, including the Centro León in Santiago and the Museo de Arte Moderno in Santo Domingo. Leo has participated in a total of 18 exhibitions, including 4 solo shows.
His contributions to cultural development have been recognized by the Municipal Council of Sosúa and the Luxembourg Museum. Artistic Philosophy: Leo’s paintings are a reflection of the national and local environment. He finds inspiration in everyday subjects, whether it’s an old pair of pants or a broken umbrella. Working on a large format allows him to express himself freely. For Leo, colors are the universal language, and he wields them like an alphabet.

Después de orar, sopesar y analizar por 2 años, mis hijos y yo hemos decidido apoyar a nuestra vecina, la señora Eduviges Valerio Burgos, cariñosamente, Vija, solicitando la colaboración que sus corazones les motive para ayudarla en la materialización de…! La casita de su sueño dorado!
La señora Vija es una mujer humilde, muy amable y luchadora. Ella cultiva yuca, maíz, pica almendra, extrae aceite de higuera entre otras muchas actividades propias de las labores de su zona rural en la comunidad donde vive. El hecho de verla cada día esforzándose tanto ha sido para mí y mis hijos más que suficiente para sentirnos motivados e identificados con su lucha, su anhelo indecible de poder dormir bajo un techo sin temor a preguntarse por dónde entrará la lluvia al interior de su agonizante vivienda.
Su casita está en pésima condiciones. Me ha comentado que nunca ha vivido en una casa de block y cemento: , expresa ella.

Casa de arte de Sosúa realiza un encuentro con el viceministro de Patrimonio Cultural señor Gamal Michelén y Carlos Andújar director general de museos, los mismos fueron recibidos por el artista plástico Adolfo Faringthon quien es presidente de la Fundación Casa de Arte de Sosúa y el señor Andrés Pastoriza miembro de esta fundación. Antes del encuentro la señora Aura Rodríguez asistente ejecutiva del centro realizó junto a ellos un tours guiado por el salón de exposiciones, donde pudieron apreciar la exhibición Impatto Notturno del artista local Leo Díaz. En este encuentro se acordó entre otros puntos beneficiosos para este centro cultural lograr un acuerdo de colaboración entre esta institución y el Ministerio de Cultura, en ese mismo sentido se concluyó invitar a la ministra de cultura Carmen Heredia para que visite esta entidad.
